Built by a couple, for everyone
We wanted a retirement planner that actually worked for two people planning a life together. When we couldn't find one, we built it — and now it works for anyone, whether you're planning solo or as a couple.
The problem we kept running into
Every retirement calculator we tried was designed for one person. Plug in your salary, pick a retirement age, get a number. But that's not how life works when you're planning together.
What if one of us retires before the other? How do we coordinate Social Security claiming ages? What happens to our taxes if we do Roth conversions during the gap years? How do we handle healthcare before Medicare?
These are real questions that come up when two people try to plan a retirement together. And no free tool we found could answer them.
So we built one
Am I On Track To Retire started as a personal project — a tool we built for ourselves to model our own retirement. We wanted to see the year-by-year numbers: income, taxes, Social Security, healthcare, investment growth, and spending — all in one place, for both of us.
As it grew more useful, we realized others might benefit from the same tool — not just couples, but anyone serious about retirement planning. So we cleaned it up, added single-person support, and made it available for free.

Yes, it was vibe coded
We built this with the help of AI. The entire application — the projections engine, the tax calculator, the Social Security estimator, the Monte Carlo simulations — was developed through a collaborative process between humans and AI.
We're not a fintech company. We're a couple who cared enough about getting this right that we spent the time to build it. AI helped us move faster and build something more comprehensive than we could have alone.

What it does give you is a way to explore your options, understand the trade-offs, and walk into a conversation with a financial professional with better questions and a clearer picture of your situation.
